Which lens for which conditions

Every FeelMorys frame uses a polycarbonate lens. What changes between models is the treatment on top of it, and that treatment is most of the price difference across the range.

What it does Suits Models and from-price
Standard
Category 1–4 · VLT 6.14% to 62.94%
A fixed tint with UV protection absorbed into the polycarbonate. The lens every other one in the range is built on. Most daylight conditions, and the lowest price in the range. Tint varies widely by colourway, so check the category on the product page. SOA, DARA, BADA from SGD 77
Polarized
Category 2–3 · VLT 8.68% to 26.76%
Filters light reflected off flat surfaces. The result is a cleaner image rather than a darker one. Wet road, coastal routes, and tracking something small at speed. DARA, NOA, LUA, LUBARA, ARA from SGD 105
Photochromic
Category 0–4 · VLT 86.6% to 7.29%
Tint changes as UV levels change. One lens covers a session from before dawn to full sun. Runs and rides that cross changing light. Not driving, because windscreens block the UV it reacts to. DARA, NOA from SGD 155

On the standard and polarized lenses, UV protection is absorbed by the polycarbonate itself rather than applied as a surface coating, so it does not wear off.

Same frame, three lenses

The DARA frame takes all three lens types. Same 27g shape, same adjustable nose pads, same silicone contact points. What changes is the lens, and most of the price difference with it.

Polarized

Light bouncing off wet tarmac or open water comes back horizontally polarized, and that is what flattens contrast and makes you squint. A vertical filter laminated inside the lens blocks it. It is also the lens that can dim an LCD screen at certain angles, which is worth knowing before you buy.

How polarized lenses work

Photochromic

The tint darkens in about 30 seconds and clears more slowly, over several minutes. The range is category 0 to 4, which covers a dark start through to full daylight on one lens. It does not work behind a windscreen.

How photochromic lenses work

Fogging and airflow

Fog is warm damp air from your face meeting a cooler lens with nowhere to go. SOA vents at the outer edges and along the temples. DARA vents at the upper corner and lets you raise the frame off the face. Airflow reduces fogging rather than preventing it.

Why sunglasses fog, and what reduces it

Wearing them with a prescription

DARA, NOA and BADA accept an optical insert that mounts behind the main lens. You buy the frame and your optician glazes the insert to your prescription. SOA, LUA, LUBARA and ARA do not take one.

Common questions

Which lens should I choose for running?

Standard for most conditions and the lowest price. Polarized if you run on wet road or near water. Photochromic if your runs cross changing light, because one lens covers the whole session.

What is the difference between polarized and photochromic?

Polarized manages glare by filtering light reflected off flat surfaces. Photochromic manages brightness by changing tint as UV levels change. They solve different problems and neither replaces the other.

What does lens category mean?

A scale from 0 to 4 measuring how much visible light the lens transmits, set by EN ISO 12312-1 and AS/NZS 1067. Category 3 is a standard dark sunglass lens. Category 0 is close to clear. Category 4 is the darkest and is not permitted for driving. Category is a measure of tint, not of UV protection.

Is UV protection the same as how dark the lens is?

No. A light lens can block just as much UV as a dark one. On the standard and polarized lenses, the UV protection is absorbed by the polycarbonate itself rather than applied as a coating, so it does not wear off.
